Recording and uploading songs
Once you have the Audio player fully opened up and working,
you need to upload your track into the computer's hard drive, so it can be
edited within the Sound Edit 16 software. This process is really easy. Follow
these steps for uploading:
- Select the song you wish to be uploaded using the Audio Player menu.
- Activate the Sound Edit 16 default window by clicking on it.
- On the main toolbar, go to Modify menu, then click on Recording
Options.
- A small picture like this should open up on your screen:

- If you are uploading a song from a CD (the most likely choice for editing
sound files), click on the "CD-TV-Video" button. Also, click on the "Listen
while recording" check box, as otherwise you won't be able to hear the song as
it is being uploaded into the software, even if it's playing in the Audio
Player.
- Click OK. On the Controls pop-up menu, click the little red button.
This will start recording your song into the computer. You will be able to see
the time in number of seconds ellapsed since you began the recording.
- Once you are done, click the "Stop" button on the Controls menu. You may
also wish to stop the song that is currently playing in the Audio player, if
you haven't already done so.
- In a short time, your song will uppear in the default window menu. The
time it takes for a song to be displayed is proportional to it's length, that
is, the larger (or longer) the sound file is, the longer it will take to
appear in the default window. Once it is fully loaded and converted by the
computer into a wave format, it will appear like this:
- Look carefully at the top of the white display bar - just above where the
track appears. You will see the time ruler with units divided into minutes -
this is how you can tell where each part of the track is located.
- Try re-playing the file, this time from the Sound Edit 16 software, by
pressing the "Play" button on the Controls menu. This will allow you to
hear and compare how your file sounds to that of the original track.
- If you hadn't already done so, Save
your file, unless you don't plan to use it in the future. If you are finished
this, you can then proceed on to the next and most important step of using
Sound Edit 16 software - editing!
