Menu, Icons, and Commands
Once you have the basic
screen opened up, you should look at several things before you begin to work
with your audio file. First, take a look at the top section of the screen, where
the main toolbar is located.
The little icons placed in this toolbar are all short-hand for commands which
can be found under the various menus and sub-menus. Therefore, you don't have to
go to these menus each time you want to perform a function, say Cut or
Insert Noise. Just click on the appropriate button and the change will be
done for you.
To see the function of each of these icons, just place the cursor of the
mouse on top of the button, then hold it there for about two seconds, and the
name of it will appear.
The "Controls" Panel
The controls panel allows you to
play, pause, stop, and record a song into your Sound Edit 16 file. It is
basically a short-hand for the commands that can also be found under the
Control menu on the main viewbar. The controls display box looks like
this:

You may find it useful to have this dialogue box open when
you're editing your files, as this is a much shorter and easier way of
performing it's functions, as opposed to going to the Control menu and
selecting the desired choice.
